How did last year’s Avalaunch Gives Back 5k go?

This past October, on the 29th, the 2nd Annual “Avalaunch gives back 5k and family fun run” occurred to great success! Many of you probably heard about how the event went, and perhaps even had the opportunity to attend it, but for those who didn’t, here is an update on how it went! If you want to hear more about what the activities were that attendees could participate in, check out this blog post.

A shot of the Family Fun Run

The 2022 Avalaunch Gives Back 5k and Family Fun Run (or the ‘5k Fun Run’ for short) was an event to remember, with over 150 racers, and $3500 raised for water filters alone!. We were so grateful for the donations and attendance that was able to happen at the event.

We were delighted to have some local sports mascots join us for the 5k Fun Run, including Eddie the Yeti from Avalaunch Media, Bumble the Bee from the Salt Lake Bees, Willy the UVU wolverine, and even Cosmo the Cougar from BYU! Thank you to our winged, fluffy, and clawed pals for coming out to help support the cause! 💗

As you might have seen, $3500 USD was raised to help continue our work here at Water For Life. But what exactly does that money translate to? Well, every filter kit costs roughly $25 to manufacture, as well as to get shipped out, so that would mean that we were able to raise enough money for over 100 filter kits for those in need! In those filter kits is included everything a family or individual would need to purify 100,000 gallons of water.

An example of one of our bucket filters.

According to the US EPA, one American uses over 100,000 gallons of water in one year. That’s including all of the clothes cleaning, dish washing, lawn watering, hygiene, and accidental water waste that Americans tend to do. So consider the amount that 3 years worth of all the water you use in your day to day life could be doing to help those in need! Many of those who suffer from water-borne illnesses have access to all that water and more, however, what they need more than anything is for it to be turned into safe, potable drinking water. That’s where our filter kits come in.

Needless to say, the 5k fun run was met with much success. Thank you to all of those who attended and donated, and an ESPECIALLY big thank you to the 25+ volunteers who helped everything run smoothly! Thanks to everyone’s hard work, dedication, attendance and donations, we will be able to continue providing clean water solutions to those in Ukraine, Pakistan, Guatemala, and more.
