Preventing water crises before they happen
The Philippines is no stranger to water crises.
Because of its climate and geographic location between tectonic plates on the Ring of Fire, Filipinos are constantly at risk of water crises as a result of natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. These events can cause water infrastructure to break and clean water to become extremely scarce and costly.
Our distribution partner for our Philippines water project MVP Mailhouse has employees in the Philippines that have experienced typhoons and the resulting water issues. In particular, Super Typhoon Odette, also known as Typhoon Rai, struck the Philippines in December 2021 and showed just how critical water is in these disaster situations.
In coordination with local church congregations and volunteers, MVP Mailhouse and their team distributed VF100 water filter kits to families and taught filter assembly and maintenance to a large group in Davao City.
After this initial day of filter distribution, volunteers then distributed more filters in smaller communities on the islands of Samal and Cebu.
With VF100 water filter kits, individuals and families are prepared to have clean water for their families and neighbors whenever another typhoon creates a potential water crisis.
