How Water For Life Charity Filters Work

VF100 portable water filters jump-start the water crisis solution where it is needed most. Their small size makes them easy to distribute to remote communities and enables individuals to gather their own safe drinking water for years after Water for Life Charity distribution.

The technology behind Water For Life Charity filters save lives. The VF100 portable water filtration system is simple and effective, producing over 100 gallons of clean water per day and up to 240 gallons per day in ideal conditions. Besides the filter kit, the only other equipment necessary to access clean water is a 5-gallon bucket.

The filter design is simple, the assembly is fast, and the maintenance is low, making access to clean water a reality even in the most remote and devastated areas.

With the purchase of one filter, an entire family and a few of their neighbors can access safe drinking water.

Filter Technology

Water For Life Charity filters use technology initially developed for kidney dialysis.

Hollow fiber membranes located in the filter are made of small U-shaped micro tubes. Contaminated water enters the filter core by going through tiny micro pores. Each pore, or Point ONE Filter, is just 0.1-micron absolute, meaning that 99.99999% of protozoa and bacteria cannot pass into the filtered water. Of the water filter systems currently available, the VF100 offers the highest bacteria and protozoa removal while still maintaining a high flow rate.

The filter’s simple design means that families do not have to use chemicals or wait for wells to be drilled. Instead, all they need is a filter kit, a 5-gallon bucket, and a water source to access clean, safe drinking water in minutes.

Filter assembly & maintenance

To assemble a VF100 filter, a 1.5-inch hole is drilled in the bottom of a clean plastic bucket. The connector, hose, and filter are then screwed onto the bucket. After being filled with water from virtually any source, the filter head is lowered below the water line to allow gravity to move water through the filter.

High water flow rate removes the need to store water, largely reducing the risk of contamination. Working on gravity alone, the filter is a cost-efficient solution to provide safe drinking water to numerous individuals and families.

Water for Life

The Water For Life Charity water filter is also easy to maintain. If the filter becomes clogged or flow rate slows, an included syringe is used to backwash the filter.

While the water filter is used for daily living in many developing countries, it is also an efficient and timely solution during natural disasters. Regardless of the situation, VF100 water filters prevent waterborne diseases from the following:

  • Bacteria – 99.99999% of bacteria that cause amoebic dysentery, botulism, cholera, coliform bacteria, E. Coli, salmonella, leptospirosis and streptococcus is removed from filtered water.
  • Protozoa – Also at a removal rate of 99.99999%, protozoa, also known as cysts, are removed, which prevents diseases like cyclospora, cryptosporidium, and giardia.
